Hi Michael. We have been trending in the direction of unfairness in college football for decades. You put the matter well. What's going now is the pretense.

RKatz mentioned European club soccer. The UEFA Champions League determines bids in the continental tournament by country coefficients calculated according to five-year rolling evaluation of performance by teams from that country.

In La Liga, broadcast revenue is distributed according to final standings and "social reach," which means that Barcelona and Real Madrid routinely rake in more money than other clubs in Spain, which keeps them at the top and perpetuates the cycle.

It seems like we're at a point in the global sports ecosystem where people who run one sport in one country/region/continent look to other systems and see what creates economic value. I think the role of sports journalism going forward might be to clarify what values drive decisions, to identify organizations that operate through true community investment, and to help people understand how economics shape(d) decisions made by players or teams.

This certainly needs Federal intervention od some sort.

Problem: G5 schools probably cant influence the Senate and House the way large schools representing the states or at least a majority of their state's fans. Maybe the Senate with Wyoming, Utah? Dakotas are FCS... what a mess.
